Welcome to Criss-Cross Applesauce!  I created this blog as a way to record and share the kid-centered activities I do with my children that promote creativity, learning and independence.  The activities we do at home are little things... an educational game, an quick craft or a reorganized shelf.  I know the games, crafts, tips and tricks are less important than the simple act of giving my kids my undivided attention.   I believe the quality time I spend with my children will make all the difference in their lives.  Here you will find posts on thematic units, no-nonsense crafts and fun learning activities for tots, preschoolers and primary age children. 

About Me 

I'm a temporary SAHM to a preschooler (4 years old) and a tot (18 months old).  I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education and Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education.  I have 10 years teaching experience (the first 2 years as a consultant special education teacher and the last 8 years as a 3rd grade teacher).  I love the Montessori approach to educating children.  I like kid-crafts that don't require a lot of prep time and materials.  I enjoy creating fun learning games for my preschooler (check-out my free printables!) and engaging my tot in sensory activities.
